Why SILKAVA

Silk has remarkable qualities of its own: smooth against skin and hair, naturally temperature-regulating, and gentle with less friction. But not every silk product is made the same, and the details aren't always easy to understand.

At SILKAVA, we make them clear. Our pieces are crafted from 22-momme, Grade 6A mulberry silk, selected for softness, strength, and everyday durability, and are OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certified, tested against over 1,000 harmful substances.

But material is only part of the story.

22 MOMME – A traditional measure of silk weight. At 22 momme, the fabric is substantial enough for everyday use while maintaining silk's signature softness and elegant drape.

GRADE 6A – The highest officially recognized quality grade for raw silk in the international classification system, reflecting superior fiber length, strength, and uniformity.

OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 – An independent certification ensuring the textile has been rigorously tested for harmful substances.

Our Story

I grew up in Suzhou, a city with centuries of silk-crafting history. As a child, I raised silkworms as pets, fed them mulberry leaves, and watched them spin the thread that became their cocoons. It was a common after-school activity for children there.

Years later, after moving to the United States and building a career in art and design, silk found its way back into my life. As I began experiencing allergic reactions as an adult, I started paying closer attention to the materials I lived with. In doing so, I rediscovered the quiet comfort of silk, which soothed my skin.

I also began to notice something missing. Silk is often treated as a commodity or as a wellness product. I wanted to approach it differently: as a material with a story, a craft worthy of thoughtful design, and something that could become part of everyday self-care rituals.

That idea became SILKAVA: Silk with intention.

Every product arrives in a gift box, accompanied by a collectible Origin Series card that extends the SILKAVA world beyond the fabric itself. The card's design translates the silk's journey, from mulberry leaf to cocoon to thread, into a cohesive visual language.
